Weekly Roundup # 106
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
The first gun control bill of 2026 has been proposed in Sacramento and it’s a wonderful bill that is sure to delight California gun owners (as well as those hoping to become California gun owners). Remember the firearm safety certificate that is required for anyone wanting to purchase a firearm in California? The one that you get by taking a 15 minute quiz in your local gun shop. If (when) CA SB948 becomes law, that 15 minute quiz will turn into a full eight hour class that includes a live fire session at the range. SB948 will also turn that currently almost free certificate into one that will likely cost several hundred dollars as instructors will have to charge something to teach an eight hour class that includes range time. Think of the irony, a potential gun owner will need to go to the range and shoot a rental gun for the privilege of exercising a right that is allegedly protected by the Constitution and shall not be infringed. We should all take a moment to express gratitude to the disengaged, uninterested California gun owners that allow politicians who have no respect for the Second Amendment to be elected and re-elected. If California gun owners don’t wake up and get involved this will continue to get worse until there is no such thing as a California gun owner. Just sayin…
Some of you may have read Jeanine Pirro’s idiotic comments on legal gun owner’s right to carry. Pirro illustrates a problem with some Republicans who claim to be pro-2A displaying either a complete lack of understanding of the Second Amendment (shocking in her case) or just a complete lack of honesty on the subject. Her comments inspired AWR Hawkins to wright a thoughtful article on the subject in Hawkins: All Gun Control is Unnatural and Should Be Abolished.
Gun writer Lee Williams brings us an article describing an anti-gun group led by a former law enforcement officer which suggests that cops don’t always know as much as you would think. Check out Williams’ thoughts on the subject in Anti-gun group 97Percent is back, now led by anti-gun ex-cop.
This week we hear from legendary gun writer John Petrolino with a report on some of the organizations that are out there advocating for our rights. Petrolino reports in Who’s Talking with the White House.
We have another piece from the gun writing phenomena that is the legendary John Petrolino. This time John explores the future of gun rights in NAGR’s Taylor Rhodes on the Gun Rights Outlook for 2026.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward but now carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
