Weekly Roundup # 114
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
Some members of congress are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to protect the right of gun manufacturers to conduct lawful business free from the actions of irrational gun control groups. AWR Hawkins has the story in Exclusive: Rep. Fry Files Brief Seeking SCOTUS Review to Defend the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.
It’s ironic how anti-Second Amendment politicians will go to great lengths to obtain the protection of armed security for themselves while denying the right of armed self-protection to the citizens they serve. AWR Hawkins looks at the latest example in Chicago: Pro-Gun Control Mayor’s “Armed Security” Detail Costing Taxpayers $30 Million a Year.
Some good news in the “you’ve got to crawl before you walk” category as the post office proposes a rule change to benefit Americans. Once again AWR Hawkins has the story in Post Office Proposing Rule to Allow Americans to Mail Handguns.
How will changes at the Trump DOJ impact the rights of gun owners? Cam Edwards takes a look in Bondi Out at DOJ, So What Happens Now to Civil Rights Division’s 2A Focus?
Over the years, gun safety education programs have been mostly removed from the public schools to the detriment of all Americans. Tom Knighton offers his take on the issue in This is Why We Need Gun Safety Classes in Our Schools.
Gun-Free zones are a terrible idea that endanger the lives of innocent people wherever they are imposed. One area of gun-free zone may be going away and once again AWR Hawkins has the story in Secretary of War Signs Memorandum to End Military Bases as Gun-Free Zones.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward and for a time carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Hayward and Hinderaker have now decided to alternate their WIP duties each week. Welcome back Steven! Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
