Weekly Roundup # 116
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
In class, we explain the concept of disparity of force as a possible justification for the use of deadly force in a self-defense incident. AWR Hawkins reports on an incident that clearly demonstrates the application of the concept in Good Guy with a Gun Shoots, Kills Alleged Assaulter in Parking Lot. Take the time to watch the short video where the gun shop owner explains the actions of his employee, great lesson.
California legislators continually find creative (and mostly unconstitutional) ways to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens. This latest example directly attacks the First Amendment, but the Second Amendment is a likely next target. Lee Williams explores this possibility in California’s “Stop Nick Shirley Act” should concern every gun owner.
For Republican politicians, the time never seems to be right to stand up for the Second Amendment. Some are saying that this behavior might finally cost the party in November. AWR Hawkins reports in Gun Owners of America’s Erich Pratt: Congress Must Abolish Biden-Era Gun Control if they Want the Gun Vote.
Democrat politicians continue to make progress in their never ending quest to keep citizens safe from the weapons of war flooding America’s streets. AWR Hawkins covers their latest effort in New York Democrat Lawmakers Target BB and Pellet Guns.
Some positive signs from the Trump DOJ concerning the Second Amendment. AWR Hawkins reports in Harmeet Dhillon: Semiautomatic Rifles Like the AR-15 “Are Protected by the Constitution”.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward and for a time carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Hayward and Hinderaker have now decided to alternate their WIP duties each week. Welcome back Steven! Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
