Weekly Roundup # 118
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
Politicians from the evil party have only one response to violent crimes committed by criminals or by people whose mental illness drives them to violence. It’s especially ironic when the crime is committed by one of their supporters who was ill enough to be influenced by the left’s violent rhetoric. Pam Key covers the latest example in Raskin: WHCD Shooting Could Be “Moment of Unity” for Universal Background Checks.
In a related story, normal, rational, informed adults know that the vast majority of gun control laws have no impact on crime or criminals and the laws mostly make the public less safe. AWR Hawkins reports on what is almost always the case (even in heavily gun controlled California) in Report: Alleged White House Correspondent’s Dinner Attacker Bought Guns Legally.
Anti-gun forces have always maintained “no one wants to take your guns”, a statement people who pay attention never took seriously. We’ve apparently reached a point politically where those forces have abandoned the deception and are saying the quiet part out loud. D. Parker has the story in Gun Grabber Ghouls come One Step Closer to Confiscation.
Sometimes we see information that is well known by most gun owners but surprises many Americans (our fault as gun owners for not doing enough to educate the public). AWR Hawkins presents a recent example in PEW Research: Category of Guns That Includes “Assault Weapons” Accounts for 3 Percent of Gun Murders.
One reason the public is so misinformed on the subject of guns and the Second Amendment is the intentional (and very successful) misinformation campaign waged by the mainstream media over the past several decades. Lee Williams examines the subject in Associated Press caught producing anti-gun advocacy.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward and for a time carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Hayward and Hinderaker have now decided to alternate their WIP duties each week. Welcome back Steven! Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
