Weekly Roundup # 122
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
This week we’ve got a short Weekly Roundup that you’ll notice is also a day early. The reason is that this weekend is my annual pig hunt and I’ll be without electronics (YEA!!) until Sunday. You’ll also need to find the Week in Pictures on Powerline on your own when it comes out on Saturday.
Earlier this week we celebrated Memorial Day in honor of those who gave their lives protecting ours. I want to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of those heroes. I first published this article in 2024 as a book review for Heart of a Soldier, a book about the life of Rick Rescorla, a true American hero. Rescorla was born in England but eventually immigrated to America where he served in Vietnam and participated in the famous battle depicted in the Mel Gibson movie: We Were Soldiers Once, and Young. As a civilian Rescorla eventually settled in New York City where he saved hundreds of lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the Twin Towers.
As Americans, it’s good to take a moment and reflect on how fortunate we are and how great our country is particularly today when there seem to be so many misguided people trying to tear it down. Rick Rescorla is an example of why America is what it is. I highly recommend Heart of a Soldier as a reminder of who we are.
Next week the Roundup should be back to normal, published on time, including a humorous meme, and possibly a short report on a successful pig hunt. See you then!
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward and for a time carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Hayward and Hinderaker have now decided to alternate their WIP duties each week. Welcome back Steven! Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
To resume next week.
