Weekly Roundup # 124
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
For those of us in California, we have the latest example of our tax dollars at work keeping us safe and prosperous. SB948 (aka Firearms: safety certificates) is working its way through the legislature and is one step closer to becoming law. SB948 replaces the 10 minute firearm safety card exam with a full eight hour class including at least one hour of live fire at a range, a great solution to a non-existent problem. This will be required of anyone buying a firearm in California and of those unfortunate enough to be relocating here and bringing guns into the state. As usual law enforcement is exempt, but what’s unusual is CCW holders are also exempt. If you’ve been putting off getting your CCW, now is the time to act and join your 30,000 brothers and sisters in San Diego County who’ve taken responsibility for their safety. If signed into law, SB948 will take effect in July 2028.
The Spectator/Australia published a report by Malcolm Roberts and Dr. John Lott revealing crime in Australia is three times higher than in the US. AWR Hawkins has the story in Report: Personal Crimes in Gun-Controlled Australia Triple That of Gun-Friendly USA. Roberts and Lott explain exactly what is happening in their report. The report is behind the Spectator/Australia paywall but can be read here.
For some good news from, of course, Florida, we have a story of how an Attorney General who believes in and supports the Constitution behaves in office. Lee Williams reports in The country needs more pro-gun attorneys general like Florida’s.
We return to California to wrap up the Roundup on a more humorous note. How many times have we heard the gun-control Left say law enforcement officers are the only people who can safely and competently use firearms insisting that skill is far beyond the reach of an ordinary civilian? Most gun owners know that is complete nonsense. For proof LEOs are just people like the rest of us, AWR Hawkins brings us Video: Officer Shot After He and Another Officer Jokingly Point Guns at Each Other. Be sure to watch the included dashcam video, it’s definitely worth 30 seconds of your time.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward and for a time carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Hayward and Hinderaker have now decided to alternate their WIP duties each week. Welcome back Steven! Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
