Weekly Roundup # 63
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The intent is to provide some interesting reading for you while providing some exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
It’s been a big week for America and a big week for the Second Amendment and this week’s Weekly Roundup provides a little taste of it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Grab a cup of coffee, relax, and take a few minutes to catch up on what’s been happening around the country.
The Good
Finally, the federal government is going to target those who abuse our Second Amendment rights, AWR Hawkins has the story in Trump DOJ Creates Second Amendment Task Force.
As we no longer have a gun control lunatic running the ATF we can look forward to some relief until this rogue agency is finally abolished. AWR Hawkins has the details in Kash Patel Puts More Biden-Era ATF Rules in Crosshairs.
The CDC and NIH have long been corrupted by the gun-control lobby and have used their position and our tax dollars to promote gun-control propaganda. The federal government and our new HHS Secretary may be putting a stop to this abuse. AWR Hawkins (I feel like we should proclaim April 12th AWR Hawkins Day) has the details in Legislators Urge HHS Sec. Kennedy to End CDC/NIH Spending on Gun Control.
Those who pay attention may be aware that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (the most overturned court in the country) has once again ruled incorrectly upholding the ban on standard capacity magazines as constitutional thus endangering the public and ensuring that only criminals will have access to proper magazines for their guns. Attorney Paul Clement filed a request to continue the injunction issued by Judge Beneitez allowing citizens to possess and use standard capacity magazines until the case can be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. By some miracle the request was granted so for at least the next 90 days, law-abiding citizens won’t have to choose between endangering themselves and others by carrying sub-standard magazines and breaking the law to keep themselves and their families safe.
In some good news for all Californians, the federal government may be stepping up to help those of us living under the disaster that is the Newsom government. Katherine Hamilton delivers the good news in Report: Senate Republicans Look to Axe California EV Mandate.
The Bad
It seems like the gun-control lobby has tried this in the past without success but like all bad ideas from the Left, when it’s obvious an idea is a failure, it just needs to be tried harder. AWR Hawkins again has the story in Gov. Hochul Signs Bill Allowing Credit Cards to Track Ammo Purchases.
In a disappointing decision, the U.S. Supreme Court once again demonstrates why relying on the courts to protect our rights is bad strategy (electing politicians who respect and support the Constitution and who don’t attack our rights in the first place is good strategy). AWR Hawkins has more in SCOTUS Declines Challenge to New York Concealed Carry Restrictions.
The Ugly
Finally, a story about how criminals actually get the guns they use in crimes and the ATF doing the job they’re intended to do for a change. Bob Price has the story in Honduran Alien Indicted on Theft of 40 Firearms in Tennessee.
Apparently determining when a crime is a hate crime depends on which group of people the hate is directed towards. Olivia Murray examines the subject in Nashville PD on Covenant school shooter: All that talk about wanting to kill “white” kids isn’t about race, but notoriety.
Anyone who pays attention knows the mainstream media is as much under the control of the anti-gun lobby as they are under control of the Democratic party. Lee Williams brings us the latest example in The New York Times’ latest anti-gun news story.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward but now carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
