Weekly Roundup # 68
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read.
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The intent is to provide some interesting reading for you while providing some exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
“Is it ok to modify my carry gun?” is something I’m frequently asked by CCW students. Generally, it’s more about reliability than anything else however defense attorney Mark Seiden has a different take from the perspective of what happens in a courtroom. Massad Ayoob brings us an interview with Seiden conducted by Gila Hayes of Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network that provides an enlightening view from the perspective of a defense attorney. See Ayoob’s intro and the link to the interview in Wisdom from Mark Seiden.
The Democrat party has been attacking the Second Amendment for decades using misinformation and fear mongering to manipulate a mostly uninformed public. The Republican party, on the other hand, is supposed to be the party that defends the Constitution and the rights of all Americans. Sadly, the Democrats are much better at living up to their reputation than are the Republicans. The solution is much greater involvement of American citizens in our system of government. D. Parker highlights some 2A related bills currently in congress and what citizens can do to support those bills in Why are Republicans suppressing pro-Second Amendment bills?
Suppressors are a common firearm accessory available to most Americans (but not to those of us living in the Peoples Republic of California) and are used to enhance the shooting experience and improve safety. While available, the process to purchase a suppressor is still needlessly overregulated and excessively complicated for citizens. The health and safety benefits of suppressors is apparently not recognized for civilian gun owners but the benefit to federal agents is another story. Lee Williams has the details in ATF issuing suppressors for the “health and safety” of its agents, but what about us?
Creative ways to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of Americans are never in short supply in the far left Democrat party. AWR Hawkins reports on the latest scheme in House Democrat Jill Tokuda Introducing Bill to Track Triggers, Gun Barrels.
I encourage all my CCW students to discover John Correia and Active Self Protection. John posts videos of actual self-defense incidents on his YouTube channel and does a short analysis of each pointing out what was done well and what could have been done better providing some great education for concealed carriers and it’s completely free. In this video we see what happens to a self-defender who decides to “draw from the drop” and how that works out for him.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward but now carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
