Weekly Roundup # 95
A collection of interesting articles you may not have seen by authors you may not have read
The Weekly Roundup is a feature offered to my readers in addition to my regular articles. The Roundup is a collection of mostly recent articles you probably haven’t seen by writers you may not have read. The main intent is to expose readers to a reasonable amount of hopefully new information in the hope this will encourage some to explore further and develop a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our society and ultimately determine our way of life. The secondary intent is to offer some interesting reading for you while providing exposure for some great writers. Enjoy!
There is often a difference in the perceived view of rank and file members of law enforcement (LEOs) versus that expressed by law enforcement union leadership, the perception being that LEOs generally support the Second Amendment (2A) while union leadership sometimes support ill-advised gun control laws. This is not uncommon in California where the support of LEO unions is bought by exempting union members from dangerous gun control laws that are imposed on law-abiding gun owners. AWR Hawkins reports on an example of ill-advised union support of anti-2A legislation at the federal level in Fraternal Order of Police Urges Congress to Reject National Reciprocity.
Most gun owners realize that anti-gun forces utilize inaccurate or outright false information to sway the opinion of uninformed individuals. Lee Williams takes a humorous look at the latest example in Everytown’s latest assault on gun rights raises questions about the authors’ sanity.
When people are frightened and feel threatened, they naturally look to protect themselves and their families which typically means they reconsider firearms. Tom Knighton looks at this natural phenomenon in It’s Not Surprising That Residents in the Big Apple are Turning to Gun Ownership.
Funny how anti-gun politicians would deny law-abiding citizens the right of self-protection while ensuring they themselves are surrounded by armed guards. AWR Hawkins takes a look at one such politician in Report – Guns for Me but Not for Thee: Sen. Warnock Spent $360,000 on Private Security in 9 Months.
The Weekly Roundup now includes a humorous meme to lighten the day. The weekly meme is chosen from dozens posted in the Week in Pictures originally created by Steven Hayward but now carried on by his colleague John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog. Powerline features excellent reporting and analysis of American politics and culture. I’ve been reading the work of Hayward and his colleagues for over fifteen years.
Enjoy this week’s meme.
